MISS: Falcons 27 Colts 21
Here at GRIDLINE, we're not overly impressed with 3 consecutive wins, or 3 consecutive losses for that matter. When it gets to 4 though, we stand up and take notice. Hopefully, we'll get to experience that feeling tonite.

This intuitive gambling is fun but we really can't bet according to a team's strenghts or weaknesses yet. That will have to wait until Week 04 when our computer system kicks in. What we like to do is have one real reason to bet a side, something beyond the cut of a team's uniform. So what's our reason for taking Denver tonite. We kind of hinted at it last week: You don't bet against Peyton Manning. Maybe that is a little like the uniform thing but we've seen Manning pull some amazing stunts over the years. One time, we had the Colts as a 10 point favorite that fell behind the Rams by 17 points. He led the Colts back, won the game, and covered the spread.

The Falcons can look very much like the Steelers at times, both team's believe in time of possession. Manning, in his time with the Colts and in his first game with the Broncos, has shown he really doesn't need it. Maybe the extra possession time will result in an extra turnover for the Birds. Betting the minimum once again, on the road doggie.

On his game show, Wink Martindale asked the blonde, "What were the first words Eve said to Adam in the Garden of Eden?" She said, "Gee, that's hard." "You're CORRECT!"

Old jokes aside, we find ourselves stuck with a similar dillema in tonite's game. This is a hard point spread. We'd figure Frisco at home would be favored, but the 6 1/2 points look exactly right. Good for the books, bad for us. Even if the 49rs get out to a 13 point lead, the Lions could still beat the spread with a late TD. In other words, don't expect to see a safe lead if you're taking San Francisco tonite.

We've got to go with somebody tonite - it's Sunday nite - and according to our Teams vs. Spread report, the points only come into play 1/5 of the time, so we'll just take Frisco, lay the wood and hope the points aren't a factor. We can't control the oddsmakers when it's the only game in town, but we can make it a minimum play.

Here we go with a rare, early season bet on a clear day in Philly. We're not going to kid anybody, the Eagles are an excellant team, particularly hard to beat at home. We just feel that the Ravens have a really good team, maybe the best in football right now, and if last week was any indicator they have a stronger offense this year to go with that incredible defense. Call it a reach, but we're going to go with a live road dog in a Noon game. The odds are such that we get the Ravens at even money with the 2 1/2 points.

The Pack is coming off that beating by the 49rs. One thing that game proved: The 49rs are tough. The Bears got an easy victory against the Colts, which is impressive, but we don't know how tough the Colts are. The premise of this bet is that the Packers will find the going a little easier against the Bears, and the Bears will find the going a little bit harder. It may be wet during the game but there's no wind, and WR Jennings is out for Green Bay while Chicago CB Tillman is busted up. This spread is going down but we'll stick with the minimum play on the Pack.
