MISS: Oakland 23 Denver 20

It's hard to believe we actually had a chance to beat the spread last night. Romo's fumble and the blocked punt gave us a shot with 5 minutes left. We almost won it when Revis started heading for the end zone with his late pick but alas, it was not to be. Dallas played a good game up until the fumble, but the real problem appeared to be Rex Ryan's lack of imagination.

Going in, we are not much worried about a lack of imagination from John Fox. We don't like to talk good about coaches but Fox is one of the better ones. That, and the mile high air up in Denver on opening nite, has us leaning the Bronco's way. Oakland is a talented team but they have very little depth. It's stuff you may need up there.

There's not much to go on for opening weekend. Especially with new players, new coaches and a new season. We are more about feeding our vices than about winning money early on. That'll change in Week 05, when the science kicks in and we start looking at every game and betting like crazy. In the meantime, make this one another minimum play on the home favorite. Let's hope it turns out differently than last night.

Primetime Plays for Sunday, September 11th

JETS -5 1/2

MISS: Jets 27 Cowboys 24

It was a great start to the NFL Thursday nite as two of the most offense oriented teams, with two of the scoringest QBs, put their talents on display. We hit the game when we decided on a Teaser instead of trying to figure out the points. It's good to be 1-0, but 2-0 sounds much better.

A lot of wild claims are made about the Jets but in the case of passing defense, the numbers actually back them up. Romo is a fine QB, and the Cowboys might return to 2009 form, but even so we'd expect that Jets pass D at home to present problems. Sanchez may or may not be the QB that Romo is, but his is a much easier task against a weaker defense.

Call it another minimum play, this time on the home favorite.

Primetime Plays for Thursday, September 8th

HIT: Packers 42 Saints 34

It's that time of year again, when a young man's fancy turns to thoughts of football. It's also when old dogs are the most confused. Let's face it, anything can happen for Thursday's game. We could make an argument for either team, or for Over OR Under. In many ways, our hats are off to the oddsmakers. It looks like exactly what we'd do: Make the Pack a 4 point favorite, set the O/U to 47 1/2. Brilliant!

Why fight it? The oddsmakers have had all year to think about it, and it's the only game in town. So we'll join them and hope they came out with a good line. We'll take a 6-point Teaser, adding 6 to the 4 points they give the Saints, and subtracting 6 from the 47 1/2 O/U. We'll have to hit both bets just to get paid for one, but we don't have to bet a lot on the game.

Call it the absolute minimum on a 6-point teaser. It could be a case where all teasers win, or one where only our's hits, or one where our's is the only loser. There's so little data out there. Don't let us (or anyone) tell you what to do on this one.

Good Luck Everyone!
