We had a good day yesterday despite the Chargers failure to answer the opening bell. That lasted a full 3 quarters for San Diego, plenty enough time for the Raiders to beat the spread. The Saints flat out beat the Colts. The turnovers didn't have to result in Saints TDs. The Colts got turnovers, too. FGs. Similarly, the Panthers scored TDs while the Eagles scored FGs. That'll result in a win.
Here we go with our last intuitive pick of the season. The GRIDLINE computer system arrives next week and these capsules will take a decidedly different, scientific tone. It can't come too soon, as our picks have tended to toggle the last couple of weeks. Lets try and end this phase with a winner.
These are similar teams. Zona is having a much better season, of course. With that defense, they often find themselves fielding punts already in scoring position. Despite the high profile losses of the last two weeks, the Ravens play a similar game. Like the Cardinals, you have to pass to beat them. Their problems begin there, having given up some huge scoring bombs. Their problems end with Flacco throwing INTs. If we can get Joe to concentrate like we have seen him do in the past, and if the Ravens will stay back in pass D, they'll beat the spread. Maybe win the game, although you would think a good team at home will win.
With a large, climbing spread this game is becoming more attractive by the minute. In this age of consolation TDs, the Cards have to lead by 19 late in the game for Zona bettors to fully relax. Also, while we understand a team can fuck up San Diego-Style throughout the game, we can't see a Harbaugh team doing the same, and if the Cards do get a safe lead we suspect they won't push it.

The GRIDLINE computer is nearly repaired and ready to go for WEEK 08, but before it makes it's first 2015 appearance, please indulge us as we make another emotional and biased intuitive decision. A week ago the Pants traveled to Seattle to play the NFC Champion Seahawks and beat them in their own stadium. Forgive us if we are of the opinion that nobody is going to travel to Carolina and beat the undefeated Panthers. Last year's team that (almost apologetically) made the playoffs came into this season intact and improved. We like Philly, but we think the Panthers all-around excellence will eventually manifest itself on the scoreboard. For a team that wants to dominate Time of Possession, the Eagles are made to order for the Panthers. Maybe this analysis is pretty rudimentary but we feel right about taking an unbeaten home team.

We were pretty disappointed in the way the Niners played Thursday. To only score 3 points in this age of devalued TDs is unacceptable. They did this at home, against a losing team. It looks like the Niners need to bring in a new management staff and cut half the team. Can it really help if the owner remains in charge? He's the one that didn't think Harbaugh was the proper coach.

This game features two pitiful pass defenses and two good QBs. Usually, that bodes well for the home boys, but Brees is slightly better than Luck, and the Colts pass D is slightly worse than the Saints'. It should be OK for a lite play on the road dogs. The game screams flash touchdown, but at least we have points.

The Raiders have been playing well against slow scoring teams, but the Chargers are anything but. The Chargers score 20 just looking at the field, and they've already scored 30 twice at home. Philip Rivers has been tearing up the league even in losing efforts. A lot depends on Oakland's pass rush but we don't see a lot there. We'll bet on Rivers at home and hope for a higher scoring game.

WEEK 05 was our first losing week of the year as went 2-3. We were dead wrong with the Seahawks, but the other plays were good. We just fell victims to blocked punts and consolation TDs. Over the first 6 weeks of the season our ATS record is 12-8 with 2 pushes. It's a solid 60%, which we'll gladly take, but we are still waiting for the GRIDLINE computer to join the game.

We are trying to manufacture a win by playing a TEASER tonite. We basically get to apply 6 points either way to both the Spread and the Total in this game. The actual odds are 6 1/2 and 42 1/2. TEASERs look good with the generous points, but the hard part is hitting two particular plays in a row. It's like a PARLAY, but it only pays like a flat bet. They are hard to hit. We don't like to play them. At the same time, if the oddsmakers are accurate - which we think they are here - ALL teasers can hit, regardless of who you pick. The bad news is that, on average, the oddsmakers are off by 10 points on both Spreads and Totals. Maybe one of those consolation TDs will work in our favor, tonite.

When the systetm kicks in we can up our risk factor and start playing more games. For this week, again, the GRIDLINE computer is still sick - she hurt herself in a karaoke accident believe it or not - but she's coming along. We can rebuild her.
Good Luck Everyone!
